Cak Imin Urges Protection for Workers Following Train Accident, Highlights Plight of Informal Workers
Bekasi, Kompas.com — Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar, or Cak Imin, has emphasised the importance of strengthening social protections for workers following the collision between the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the KRL Jakarta–Cikarang commuter line.
The accident occurred at Bekasi Timur Station on Wednesday night (27/4/2026).
According to him, companies must ensure that all workers receive adequate protection guarantees through BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, especially in emergency situations such as transport accidents.
Cak Imin made this statement during a visit to the home of Nur Ainia Eka Rahmadhynna (32), a Kompas TV employee who died in the incident.
“We are urging companies to commit to their workers. They must continue to receive proper services from BPJS Ketenagakerjaan,” Cak Imin told reporters on Thursday (30/4/2026).
Cak Imin also encouraged companies that have not yet registered their workers in the employment social security programme to take concrete steps immediately.
In addition to formal workers, the government is paying special attention to informal workers, who remain numerous in Indonesia.
He stated that protection schemes for this sector need to be expanded through subsidy support.
“The next task for the government and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is informal workers, which can be subsidised through local governments or through the state budget,” he said.
Nevertheless, he hopes that in the future, informal workers can become independent as their economic levels improve.
Furthermore, Cak Imin emphasised the importance of cross-sectoral coordination in responding to emergency incidents such as transport accidents.
“Cross-sectoral coordination is essential every day, every second, so that whatever happens can be handled quickly,” he said.
“Regarding carriage layout, there are two substantive aspects. The first is modernising management, and the second is community involvement in maintaining or not obstructing crossing safety,” he added.
