NasDem Commission II member Ujang Bey has responded to PKB Chairman Muhaimin Iskandar’s (Cak Imin) proposal for civil servants to work from home (WFH) in response to Middle East conflicts. Ujang believes the government needs to develop a clear and measurable WFH policy design if it is to be implemented.

“As a member of Commission II, I appreciate the proposal for WFH as a means of fuel efficiency. Indeed, in the coming days we will also face the Eid al-Fitr and Nyepi holidays,” Ujang told reporters on Monday, 16 March 2026.

“However, when the government implements WFH, I believe the government also needs to design this WFH policy clearly and measurably,” he added.

According to him, the government must calculate in detail the potential fuel savings from the policy. Additionally, he stressed the importance of maintaining maximum public service delivery despite WFH implementation.

“(It needs to be calculated) both in terms of data on how much fuel we want to save and how public services continue to function well and effectively even with WFH in place,” he said.

Ujang noted that the government must also determine which agencies or ministries can implement the WFH policy. He reasoned that the current number of civil servants is quite substantial.

“Since there are many institutions and ministries with thousands of civil servants, it remains to be determined which agencies and ministries will implement WFH within a predetermined timeframe. That is where we can see how much fuel can be saved,” he said.

Previously, Cak Imin proposed a work-from-home policy for civil servants as a fuel efficiency measure amid potential economic impacts from a possible US-Israel conflict with Iran in the Middle East.

“Traffic congestion in Jakarta wastes fuel, and fuel prices could rise if this conflict does not stop soon. How can we address this? By having civil servants work from home, restricting those who work in the office. But this is just my proposal—a suggestion to reduce fuel consumption,” Cak Imin said at PKB headquarters in Central Jakarta on Sunday, 15 March 2026.

Cak Imin also proposed energy efficiency measures in office buildings and instructed PKB headquarters to implement such measures.
