Jakarta (ANTARA) - Digital communication expert Anthony Leong assesses that the communication style of Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya reflects an adaptive attitude due to its responsiveness and openness.

“This attitude was evident when serving various questions from around 60 journalists at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday (10/4),” Anthony stated in an official release in Jakarta on Monday.

He explained that Teddy’s attitude reflects a change in the government’s communication approach, becoming increasingly adaptive in the digital era.

He noted that the situation where a public official faces dozens of journalists simultaneously represents no small communication pressure.

“When a public official is surrounded by dozens of journalists and remains able to answer calmly, clearly, and structured, it shows strong communication capacity. This is not just about speaking ability, but also about mastery of substance, message consistency, and readiness to face real-time communication dynamics,” he said.

“He usually rarely appears, but occasionally steps forward to dispel strategic issues. That is very appropriate and necessary in conditions like this,” Anthony added.

He explained that in the context of digital communication, speed and openness are key factors in building public trust.

Based on various studies, transparency demonstrated directly in front of the media has a significant impact on perceptions of government credibility.

The Director of the PoliEco Digital Insights Institute (PEDAS) also assessed that Teddy’s more fluid yet substantive communication style reflects adaptation to changes in audience behaviour, particularly millennials and Gen Z who dominate the current digital space.

Internal implications

Furthermore, as Chairman of the Central Board of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (BPP HIPMI) for the Synergy of Danantara, SOEs, and Regional SOEs, he views that such open communication patterns not only impact the public but also have implications for internal government communication.

He stated that message clarity and openness can strengthen coordination between ministries and institutions.

According to him, efficient and non-convoluted communication has the potential to reduce miscommunication and accelerate decision-making processes in the bureaucratic environment.

Anthony added that what the Cabinet Secretary has shown is part of the government’s communication transformation towards a more modern, interactive model based on closeness with the community.
