Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government has officially implemented a policy on national work culture transformation and energy efficiency, effective from 1 April 2026, as part of a strategy to adapt to global dynamics while strengthening national economic resilience.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya emphasised that this government step is being taken amid stable national economic conditions, with secure stocks of fuel oil (BBM) and maintained state fiscal health.

“The work culture transformation and energy efficiency policy will apply from 1 April 2026,” said Teddy via the Cabinet Secretariat’s Instagram, as confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Teddy explained that the current situation is driving changes in work culture and societal energy consumption patterns to make them more efficient, productive, and adaptive to contemporary developments.

One of the main policies implemented is the nationwide work-from-home (WFH) requirement for civil servants (ASN) for one day per week, specifically every Friday.

Nevertheless, the government assures that public services and strategic sectors will continue to operate normally under the work-from-office (WFO) system.

The health, security, cleanliness, industrial and production, energy, water, basic commodity distribution, food and beverage, trade, transportation, logistics, and financial sectors will remain fully operational. Educational activities will also remain unchanged and continue through face-to-face learning.

Furthermore, the government is undertaking major efficiencies in state expenditure. Domestic official travel will be reduced by up to 50 per cent, while overseas official travel will be cut by up to 70 per cent.

The government is limiting the use of official vehicles and encouraging state apparatus to utilise public transportation.

In the energy sector, the government has mandated the purchase of subsidised BBM using a barcode system through the MyPertamina app, with a maximum daily purchase limit of 50 litres for non-public transport vehicles.

“The prices of subsidised and non-subsidised BBM remain unchanged,” said Teddy.

He stated that the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme will be implemented five days a week, except for certain groups such as dormitories, 3T areas, and regions with high stunting rates. This policy is estimated to generate potential budget savings of up to Rp25 trillion.

Teddy emphasised that the work culture transformation and energy efficiency policy is dynamic and will continue to be evaluated according to national and global conditions.

“Once again, the government invites all of society and the business world to continue participating in supporting these work culture transformation steps, remain calm, remain productive. And what is conveyed here is dynamic in nature; if there are changes, they will certainly be announced by the government promptly,” concluded Teddy.
