Cabinet Secretary Teddy Reveals Reason for Prabowo's Cheap Market Event: To Share Happiness
Jakarta - Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya has revealed the reason behind President Prabowo Subianto’s organisation of a cheap market event at the grounds of the National Monument (Monas) in Jakarta on Saturday (28/3/2026). According to him, the President wishes to share happiness at the moment of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. “What for? Well, the President wants to share happiness. There are citizens from the regions buying clothes for their children, right? Eid clothes, shoes, bags, school supplies, prayer tools, and so on,” said Teddy, after inspecting the cheap market at Monas on Saturday evening. Teddy also disclosed that the initiative for the cheap market activity originated when the Head of State observed the high enthusiasm of the public who attended the halalbihalal at the Palace in Jakarta. “But the enthusiasm of the people who came to the palace exceeded our expectations. Then, the President wanted to keep the festive atmosphere of Eid feeling alive,” he stated. “So, perhaps for the first time, yes, the first time after Eid, here at Monas, in this large field, an event like this was held,” he continued. Therefore, the Palace once again organised the cheap market so that all citizens could celebrate Eid together. At this cheap market event, the government distributed vouchers to those in need. The vouchers were distributed through village heads as well as RT and RW chairpersons. In detail, he explained that one voucher contains a nominal value of Rp500,000, with a breakdown of Rp300,000 redeemable for basic foodstuffs and Rp200,000 for UMKM goods. Later, the distributed vouchers can be exchanged for goods, including basic foodstuffs and UMKM merchandise. “Earlier, we gave out vouchers, 100,000 vouchers. One voucher is Rp500,000. So there are for basic foodstuffs, and also for goods. What goods? Well, at the same time, to enliven the UMKM-UMKMs, the traders,” he said. In addition, there are approximately 1,000 street vendors and more than 300,000 portions of food and drink prepared for the public.
