Jakarta – Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that incentives for honorary teachers have been increased for the first time in 20 years during President Prabowo Subianto’s administration.

Teddy explained that honorary teacher incentives, which have been in place since 2005, had not been increased until 2025. Under the current government, these incentives have been raised to 400,000 rupiah.

“The central government provides incentives. These incentives are not salaries; they are supplements. What is the increase? From 2005 to 2025 there have been incentives, and they have only been increased during President Prabowo’s time to 400,000 rupiah,” Teddy said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Friday.

He explained that these incentives are supplements outside the salary authority, which falls under local government responsibility. However, the central government continues to provide support through additional incentives to help improve the welfare of honorary teachers.

Additionally, the government has increased allowances for non-permanent teaching staff (non-ASN) from 1.5 million to 2 million rupiah. Another policy deemed most beneficial by teachers is the change in the mechanism for distributing allowances.

Previously, allowances were distributed through transfers to local governments and paid quarterly. Now, on the instruction of President Prabowo, these allowances are transferred directly to each teacher’s individual bank account every month.

Furthermore, Teddy emphasised that these policies demonstrate that the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme does not disrupt budgets in other sectors.

“So some education programmes have been reduced or are not running. All are running, continuing, and even being expanded. And more specifically, focused on students, schools, and teachers,” Teddy said.
