JAKARTA - Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya explained that President Prabowo Subianto instructed his ministers to target energy efficiency to specific sectors so that energy-saving policies were targeted.

In a limited meeting at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Thursday (19/3), President Prabowo received reports from several ministers regarding the government’s anticipation of maintaining national energy resilience, especially in the midst of the threat of an oil crisis due to the war in the Gulf countries, Middle East.

“The President discussed strategic steps related to energy saving plans in various sectors as an anticipation of political dynamics in the Middle East region that could affect the stability of global energy supply and prices,” said Teddy as quoted by ANTARA.

“The President instructed that efficiency be focused on several specific sectors in order to maintain domestic energy stability and resilience,” continued Teddy.

During the meeting, the President received reports from Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, and Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto.

Other officials who also attended the meeting were the Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Minister of Investment and Industrialization/Head of BKPM and Danantara CEO Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, and President Director of Pertamina Simon Aloysius Mantiri.

The Presidential Chief of Staff explained that the efficiency measures taken by the President were strategies to ensure the sustainability of the national energy supply while maintaining national economic stability in the midst of global uncertainty.

“Through cross-ministerial coordination, the government is trying to ensure that energy saving policies can run effectively, accurately, and without disrupting people’s economic activities,” said a presidential secretariat official.

On a separate occasion, after the meeting, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga explained that the efficiency plan, among other things, by implementing a work from home (WFH) system so that the use of fuel derived from people’s travel activities can also be saved.

According to Airlangga, the WFH scheme will be implemented for 1 day in a 5-day working period.

“The technicalities are being prepared, because this is expected not only for ASN (state civil apparatus, ed.), but also for the private sector, and also for the regional governments. Well, we are all preparing again, later after the concept is mature, we will immediately inform the public in more detail,” said Airlangga.
