Jakarta (ANTARA) - Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya explained that President Prabowo Subianto instructed several of his ministers to target energy efficiency at specific sectors, ensuring that the energy-saving policy is precisely aimed.

In a limited meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (19/3), President Prabowo received reports from several ministers regarding the government’s anticipatory measures to maintain national energy resilience, particularly amid the threat of an oil crisis due to the war in Gulf countries and the Middle East.

“The President discussed strategic steps related to the energy-saving plan across various sectors as an anticipation of the political dynamics in the Middle East region that could affect the stability of global energy supply and prices,” said Teddy in Jakarta on Thursday.

“The President instructed that efficiency be focused on several specific sectors to maintain domestic energy stability and resilience,” Teddy added.

In the meeting, the President received reports from Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, and Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto.

Other officials who attended the meeting included State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM as well as CEO of Danantara Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, and President Director of Pertamina Simon Aloysius Mantiri.

The Presidential Secretariat in its official statement explained that the efficiency steps taken by the President are a strategy to ensure the sustainability of national energy supply while maintaining national economic stability amid global uncertainties.

“Through cross-ministerial coordination, the government seeks to ensure that energy-saving policies can be implemented effectively, on target, and without disrupting public economic activities,” stated the official release from the Presidential Secretariat.

In a separate opportunity after the meeting, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga explained that one of the efficiency plans involves implementing a work-from-home (WFH) system, thereby saving fuel oil from public travel activities.

The plan, according to Airlangga, will implement the WFH scheme for one day in a five-day work period.

“The technical details are being prepared, as this is expected not only for civil servants (ASN), but also for the private sector and local governments. We are preparing all of this, and once the concept is mature, we will immediately inform the public in more detail,” said Airlangga.
