Cabinet Secretary Inspects People's Train Services at Pasar Senen Station
Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Letkol Teddy Indra Wijaya inspected the operations of People’s Train services at Pasar Senen Station, Jakarta. The visit aimed to ensure the readiness of train transportation services in facing the 2026 Lebaran homecoming flow, while also following up on the President’s directives regarding the improvement of national railway service quality.
During the activity, Teddy examined several main facilities, such as the condition of the carriages, passenger seat comfort, and the cleanliness of toilet facilities. He emphasised that the government is currently prioritising improvements in the railway transportation sector to provide better services to the public.
“In line with the President’s directives, we are focusing on railway improvements. Earlier, we directly checked the People’s Train,” said Teddy at Pasar Senen Station on Tuesday (17/3).
He also conveyed that the fares for People’s Train services on the Jakarta-Yogyakarta route are now more affordable compared to before. Previously ranging from Rp225,000 to Rp250,000, the ticket prices have now dropped to around Rp135,000 to Rp175,000.
In addition to price adjustments, improvements have also been made to the facilities. Teddy explained that the air conditioning system is functioning optimally, the toilets are kept clean, and the seat layout is now more comfortable as they no longer face each other.
“The prices have decreased, the facilities have improved. The AC is on, the toilets are good, the seats are comfortable too. The approximately six-hour journey to Yogyakarta is now more comfortable,” he clarified.
During the occasion, Teddy also interacted directly with passengers to gather feedback on the service quality experienced during the journey.
“I asked the homecomers whether the train is comfortable, the price is cheap, the toilets are good. Alhamdulillah, they appreciated it,” Teddy revealed.
Furthermore, he affirmed that the People’s Train programme will continue to be developed by the government. Efforts to improve services will not only focus on Java but will also be expanded to other regions in Indonesia.
“We will continue to develop this. In the future, all railways in Indonesia, not just on Java, will also improve in quality, comfort, and cleanliness. That is the message from the President,” said Teddy.
