The Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya announced that economy train ticket prices for the Jakarta-Yogyakarta route have experienced a significant reduction to between Rp135,000 and Rp175,000, down from the previous range of Rp225,000 to Rp250,000.

He stated that the fare reduction is part of the government’s efforts to improve accessibility of public transport whilst enhancing the quality of railway services.

“Previously, the Jakarta to Yogyakarta price was around Rp225,000 to Rp250,000. I checked directly with the travellers, and the price has dropped quite substantially to between Rp135,000 and Rp175,000,” said Teddy whilst inspecting holiday travel readiness at Senin Station in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Teddy explained that the overhaul of the railway sector represents a direct directive from President Prabowo Subianto to provide more affordable and comfortable public transport services for the community.

Beyond the lower prices, improvements are also evident in train facilities, including properly functioning air conditioning, cleaner toilet conditions, and redesigned seating arrangements that no longer face each other, thereby enhancing passenger comfort.

“The facilities have improved. The price has dropped, the facilities have improved,” he said.

Teddy hopes that this tariff and facility improvement will encourage more people to use train transport, particularly during the holiday travel period, whilst simultaneously raising the standard of national railway services.

PT KAI Daop 1 Jakarta reported that the occupancy rate for Economy People’s Trains (KA), including the additional Pasarsenen-Lempuyangan service for departures until 24 March 2026, consistently reaches an average of 100 per cent on each journey.

“On today’s journey, 11 March 2026, the passenger volume was recorded at 388 passengers, with occupancy reaching 104 per cent,” said Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Regional Operation (Daop) 1 Jakarta, Franoto Wibowo in Jakarta on Wednesday.

According to him, the high level of public interest is not only influenced by the affordable tariff but also by the good level of comfort and safety.

For journeys to Yogyakarta, tickets for this service are priced at approximately Rp175,000 after receiving a 30 per cent discount through the government stimulus programme.
