JAKARTA (JP): Central Javan athletes dominated at the first leg of the Java-Bali Track and Field Circuit by romping home with five golds, seven silvers and seven bronzes at the Ngurah Rai Stadium in Denpasar, Bali yesterday.
The circuit, with four legs, now moves west to East Java, Central Java, West Java and Jakarta. The interval between each leg is about two weeks.
When the circuit reaches Madya Stadium in the capital, it will be an international track and field tournament and open to foreign participants.
Host Bali was second behind Central Java with five golds, four silver and four bronzes, Antara reported.
Jakarta came third with three golds, three silvers and four bronze medals.
On the first day of action, Central Java collected its golds through Wiji - the province's leading woman high-jumper, Ruwiyati, the 3,000m runner who clocked a time of 10,44.86 and Didik Siswanto in the discuss, who won with a 39.94 m toss.
