PT BYD Motor Indonesia is expanding its social programme in the education sector through an initiative called ‘Small Steps for Tomorrow’, run in collaboration with the philanthropic platform BenihBaik. The programme is intended to help meet school needs and support access to education for children in various regions of Indonesia. President Director of PT BYD Motor Indonesia Eagle Zhao said the programme is now entering a development phase with broader coverage. Through cooperation with the dealer network, the programme is targeted to reach 45 cities in Indonesia, thereby serving more schools and students in need. According to Eagle, BYD Indonesia views sustainability as not only related to technological development but also encompassing contributions to society, especially the younger generation. ‘Every BYD vehicle sold becomes part of our contribution in expanding the reach of this programme,’ Eagle said in a statement in Jakarta, Friday (13/6/2026). The ‘Small Steps for Tomorrow’ programme previously distributed 1,200 pairs of shoes and school bags to students in several areas. The programme was launched through an activity at SDN 03 Pondok Petir, Depok. The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Fajar Riza Ul Haq, Head of the Depok City Education Office Wahid Suryono, representatives from BenihBaik, the BYD dealer network, and company management. In addition to running educational programmes in Indonesia, BYD also disclosed several social initiatives carried out globally. In 2024, the company allocated 3 billion yuan in education funds to support the development of education and technology, including through cooperation with dozens of universities and science museums in China. In Indonesia, the Chinese company stated it has carried out a number of other social activities, including assistance for communities affected by floods in several areas, mangrove planting with electric vehicle user communities, and new energy vehicle technology education programmes at several universities. Head of Public and Government Relations of PT BYD Motor Indonesia Luther Panjaitan said the company strives to deliver broader benefits through various social and educational programmes. According to him, the utilisation of technology and innovation must go hand in hand with contributions to society and the environment. On the business side, BYD also recorded growth in new energy vehicle sales globally and in Indonesia. As of May 2026, the company reported having sold more than 16.5 million new energy vehicles in over 121 countries and regions. Meanwhile in Indonesia, the number of vehicles delivered to consumers reportedly reached more than 91,000 units, in line with the increasing adoption of electric vehicles and the development of the national electrification ecosystem.
