JAKARTA — PT BYD Motor Indonesia launched the ‘Small Steps for Tomorrow’ social programme as part of the company’s commitment to supporting education and the future of Indonesian youth. The initiative was introduced at SDN 03 Pondok Petir in Depok on Tuesday (26/5) and forms part of BYD’s expanded social contributions beyond the technology and electric vehicle sectors.

Through the programme in collaboration with Benih Baik, BYD will distribute 1,200 pairs of shoes and school bags to students in need. The aid will be rolled out gradually to 12 schools across 2026 in regions including Bekasi, Bogor, Banten, Semarang, Kediri, Bali, and Lampung.

Deputy Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Dr Fajar Riza Ul Haq praised BYD’s initiative, stating it aligns with efforts to build character and the future of Indonesian youth. “Big changes begin with small, consistent steps,” he said.

PT BYD Motor Indonesia President Director Eagle Zhao said the company aims to deliver social contributions that are directly felt by the community. He noted that the future is shaped not only by technology but also by the youth who will drive change. “We believe every small step can be the beginning of bigger dreams and a brighter future,” said Eagle.

Fajar added that building the younger generation cannot be done by the government alone and requires collaboration between business, society, and educational institutions. He hopes the programme can be expanded to reach remote schools to extend its benefits.

During the launch, BYD also organised educational and interactive activities for students. One initiative used the Vehicle-to-Load (VtoL) feature of the BYD M6 as a power source for a free milk distribution machine. Students also participated in drawing and colouring activities to encourage creativity.

The ‘Small Steps for Tomorrow’ programme is part of BYD Care’s social initiatives. Previously, BYD Indonesia has been involved in flood relief in North Sumatra, Padang, and Aceh, planting 500 mangrove seedlings in North Jakarta, and the ‘Future Mobility Innovation Roadshow’ educational programme for electric vehicles, which will expand to six universities in 2026.

Globally, BYD has distributed over 16 million new energy vehicles (NEVs) and has maintained its position as the world’s leading NEV industry for four consecutive years. In Indonesia, BYD claims over 90,000 users. Head of Public and Government Relations Luther Panjaitan affirmed that BYD Care is the company’s long-term commitment to delivering tangible social impact for the community.
