Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Trade minister Mari Elka Pangestu called on businessmen here on Friday to carefully calculate the direct impact of the recent power price hike.
She said after attending a meeting on macro-economy led by vice president Boediono "if the average hike is ten percent and the electricity cost for production is five percent, just estimate how much the rice of the products they produce would be."
She said the calculation of the impact of the electricity price hike on the price of products must be carefully calculated so that the economic impact of the price hike of products would not be big for the public.
Mari said the impact of the electricity price hike on every industrial sector would be different. "So correct calculation must be made based upon the 10 percent electricity price hike," she said.
The chief of the National Bureau of Statistics, Rusman Heriawan, meanwhile said on the occasion that the impact of the electricity price hike for businessmen would be around 0.22 percent.
"Its indirect impact meanwhile can only be seen if businessmen will increase the prices of goods and services," he said.
Rusman said businessmen and industrialists had better be proportional in increasing the prices of their products and services so that the impact of the electricity price hike would not be too wide to reaching various sectors. (*)
