Business World Under Pressure, Kadin: Don't Just Survive

Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Anindya Novyan Bakrie, assesses that the business world is facing heavy pressure due to escalating global uncertainties. Business actors are urged not only to focus on survival but also to promptly return to the path of growth so that the wheels of the economy continue to turn.

That statement was delivered by Anindya during the press conference “Kadin Business Pulse Q1 2026: Navigating Uncertainty, From Business Sentiment to Policy Action” at Menara Kadin Indonesia, Kuningan, Jakarta, on Friday (24/04/2026).

Anindya said that the dynamics of conflict in the Middle East have had a direct impact on the economy, including Indonesia. The rise in energy prices is one of the main pressures felt by the business world. “The most felt impact is the increase in fuel prices, which then spills over into higher operational costs. However, this condition is not matched by an increase in purchasing power, because liquidity is currently very tight,” said Anindya.

That situation has prompted Kadin Indonesia to routinely compile the Kadin Business Pulse survey every quarter. This survey is based on input from companies directly involved in managing financial performance. “The responses we receive come from companies that directly hold aspects of profit and loss. So this is not an assumption, but evidence-based,” stated Anindya.

According to Anindya, amid developments in digital technology and artificial intelligence, data collection is becoming increasingly comprehensive. However, direct interaction with business actors is still needed to capture real conditions in the field. Therefore, Kadin continues to reach out to regions to ensure that the economic picture is not only data-based but also direct experiences of business actors.

Anindya reminds that the Indonesian business world has gone through various major crises, from the 1998 financial crisis, the 2008 global crisis, to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021 to 2022. Those experiences become important lessons for business actors to build more resilient and adaptive business models. “The challenge now is how to respond to this situation. Whether to just focus on efficiency by tightening the belt, or to promptly return to the growth path,” said Anindya.

Based on the results of the Kadin Business Pulse Q1 2026 survey, the majority of business actors choose to carry out gradual efficiency while preparing steps to return to growth. This strategy is considered a realistic approach amid cost pressures and global uncertainties.

“If I look from the business world’s perspective, they choose to be efficient to quickly return to growth. Because growth is what enables job creation and maintains economic circulation,” stated Anindya.
