Bus fares

From Warta Kota

I want to ask all parties concerned to keep an open mind in
discussing the increase of public transportation fares, already
one-sidedly implemented by the respective owners, since the hike
in fuel prices.

Admittedly such a hike does have an effect on the cost factor
of every commodity. But the question is, how high should the
prices go?

For example, starting July 3, the Metromini bus fares went up
from Rp 700 to Rp 1000, an almost 50 percent increase in
comparison to the average 30 percent only increase in fuel
prices. Is this still within the range of acceptability?

The fares of regular buses are now also up 50 percent (Rp 750
instead of the previous Rp 500).

It all boils down to the fact that every passenger has to bear
the entire Rp 300 increase in the price of diesel fuel.

My opinion is that the recent increase in public
transportation fares is just far too much. Someone should start
"fueling" up the public to reject it. Let's shout a loud "no" to
increased fares!
