Bus driver arrested for raping maid

JAKARTA (JP): A minibus driver was apprehended by an angry mob
yesterday after he allegedly raped a maid in the Jatimakmur
village in Pondok Gede, Bekasi, 30 kilometers west of here.

Head of the Bekasi police precinct Lt. Col. Elfrizo Tobing
confirmed the report, saying that the suspect is Marihotma
Simamora, a 25-year-old driver of a Koasi minibus.

He allegedly raped Santi, 18, on the second floor of a house
belonging to their employer at about 2:30 p.m. Both the alleged
rapist and the victim work for the same person. No other people
were in the house at the time.

Their employer, Simanjuntak, who hired Simamora to drive one
of his Koasi minibuses, owns a business in town, said Tobing.

Based on the police preliminary investigation, Simamora went
to the two-story house and found that Santi was alone on the
upper floor.

"He then went upstairs and raped the maid," Tobing said.

When Simamora tried to leave the house, Santi screamed for
help.

In a few seconds, passersby surrounded the house and detained
Simamora, who was about to leave by the front door, said Tobing.

"There was only one punch landed on his face," he said.

Simamora was then taken to the nearby Pondok Gede police
subprecinct for further investigation.

"Santi is still in shock and under medical treatment at a
nearby hospital," Tobing said.

Tobing said that his officers are questioning a number of
witnesses and collecting evidence at the scene of the crime for
further examination.

The suspect has denied the allegation of rape, saying that
Santi consented to having sex with him, said Tobing.

"He can say whatever he wants, but let's prove it in court
later," the officer said. (bsr)
