Bundaran HI to Become Centre of Nyepi 2026 Celebrations with Ogoh-ogoh Parade and Penjor Installations
Jakarta, 27 February 2026 — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has announced that Bundaran HI in Central Jakarta will become the central venue for the Nyepi (Balinese Day of Silence) celebrations on 19 March 2026.
The area at the heart of the capital will host an ogoh-ogoh parade as well as the installation of penjor (traditional Balinese bamboo poles). “At Nyepi, we will have an ogoh-ogoh parade here and there will also be penjor installations. This may be the first time penjor has been installed at Bundaran HI. We will place penjor at Bundaran HI,” said Pramono at the roundabout on Friday, 27 February 2026.
In this context, the Jakarta Provincial Government is organising the Jakarta Ramadan Festival series with the theme “Mudik ke Jakarta” (Returning to Jakarta for Eid), aimed at encouraging residents to celebrate Eid in Jakarta whilst enjoying various facilities and conveniences provided by the local government and business operators.
The provincial government will provide tax incentives to shopping centres, retail outlets, and hotels so they can offer significant discounts to the public. Additionally, several tourist destinations will be encouraged to provide easier access for visitors.
Recreational locations mentioned include Ancol, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (Beautiful Indonesia Miniature Park), and Taman Margasatwa Ragunan (Ragunan Zoo). One of the key policies being prepared is the provision of free public transport services, including Transjakarta, Jaklingko, Jakarta MRT, and Jakarta LRT during Eid.
“The most important thing is that during Eid, we will provide free transport,” he said.
Pramono hopes that this series of policies will benefit the public whilst maintaining economic activity during the religious holiday season in Jakarta.
