Bulayak Satay, Favourite Iftar Menu in West Lombok
Bulayak Satay, a dish with savoury and spicy notes, is among the Iftar menu options for Muslims living on Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). “Savoury spices combined with the heat of cayenne pepper make bulayak satay well suited for breaking the fast,” said Rahman, one of the buyers, during a visit to the Bulayak Satay Narmada culinary centre in West Lombok, NTB, on Tuesday, 3 March 2026. Rahman, who arrived with his wife and son, drove about a dozen kilometres from Mataram City to Narmada District specifically to break his fast with the legendary bulayak satay. He said he often ate bulayak satay on Jalan Udayana in Mataram City and that this was the first time he tasted authentic bulayak satay in the region where the dish originated. Bulayak satay is a traditional dish originating from Narmada District, West Lombok Regency. It has now spread to various parts of Lombok Island, particularly at tourist attractions and busy centres. “We came here for the first time because we were drawn by the crowds at the Bulayak Satay Narmada culinary centre,” Rahman said.
