Amid rapid adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and digital transformation, the global business landscape is undergoing a paradigm shift. Companies are no longer solely focused on innovation speed but also on critical aspects such as digital trust, governance, and accountability.

This urgency is particularly evident in Indonesia. Industry data indicates that digital security challenges have reached alarming levels, with regulatory frameworks now a key concern for organisations.

In response, BDO Indonesia has strengthened its IT Advisory services by appointing Erikman Pardamean as IT Advisory Partner. With extensive experience in finance, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and the digital sector, Erikman will lead organisational strategies in addressing IT GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance), cybersecurity, and AI governance.

Erikman highlighted that the widespread adoption of AI presents both opportunities and risks. “AI adoption opens up significant opportunities but also introduces new risks such as algorithmic bias and lack of transparency. Strong governance is no longer optional but a critical necessity,” he said.

He noted that the biggest weakness lies in fragmented technology management. Often, AI, cybersecurity, and data protection are handled separately, creating security gaps vulnerable to cybercriminal exploitation.

Reza Aminy, BDO Indonesia’s Associate Director for IT & Digital, emphasised that technology alone is insufficient without awareness among all stakeholders.

“Comprehensive understanding is essential to build synergy. With integrated awareness, organisations can not only mitigate risks but also ensure regulatory compliance and maintain business reputation in the public eye,” he explained.

Johanna Gani, a BDO Indonesia leader, stressed that building digital trust requires approaches beyond mere technology investment. She views digital trust as an integral part of business strategy, not just a technical or legal compliance function.

“In the era of accelerated innovation, trust is as valuable as innovation itself. When AI, cybersecurity, and data protection work in harmony, companies become more resilient and can build long-term relationships with customers and investors,” she said.

Erikman Pardamean concluded that future challenges are not about adopting the latest technology but ensuring innovation aligns with trust. Organisations that harmonise these three pillars are expected to gain significant competitive advantage in future markets.

Lestari has urged the use of technology and AI to build more integrated data systems for targeted policy interventions.

GenDigital Academy successfully hosted the Code the Future AI Summit 2026 in Jakarta, showcasing AI innovations by students and university students for Indonesia’s digital future.

Unlike conventional computing systems, AI workloads rely on graphics processing units (GPUs) and high-performance computing.
