JAKARTA — The Ministry of Finance reported that the state budget deficit through the end of February 2026 reached Rp135.7 trillion, equivalent to 0.53 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP).

This figure increased compared to the same period last year. In February 2025, the budget deficit stood at Rp30.7 trillion, or approximately 0.13 per cent of GDP.

“Given these dynamics, the budget deficit of approximately Rp135.7 trillion, or 0.53 per cent of GDP, remains within the framework and design of the 2026 budget,” said Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa during the Budget Press Conference held in Jakarta on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

According to Purbaya, the 2026 budget was deliberately designed with more evenly distributed spending from the start of the fiscal year. This approach causes the deficit to emerge earlier in the budget cycle. Nevertheless, the government views the fiscal condition as remaining within the planned limits of the 2026 budget design.

On the revenue side, government income performance at the start of this year showed a positive trend, particularly from the tax sector. Realisation increased by 12.58 per cent compared to the same period last year, which reached Rp317.4 trillion.

In detail, tax revenue reached Rp290 trillion, or 10.8 per cent of the target of Rp2,693.7 trillion. This figure is higher than tax revenue realisation in February 2025, which was Rp240.6 trillion.

Meanwhile, non-tax state revenue (PNBP) was recorded at Rp68 trillion, or 14.8 per cent of the target of Rp459.2 trillion.

On the expenditure side, the government realised spending of Rp493.8 trillion, or approximately 12.8 per cent of the total government spending ceiling in the 2026 budget, which stands at Rp3,842.7 trillion. This realisation increased 41.9 per cent compared to government spending in February 2025, which was Rp348.1 trillion.

Purbaya stressed that the government will continue to encourage various factors that can strengthen economic growth in order to maintain fiscal performance throughout the year.
