JAKARTA — PT Bank Syariah Nasional (BSN) has entered into a strategic collaboration with PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) through the signing of a memorandum of understanding regarding the utilisation of Islamic banking services and the integration of public transport payment systems.

This partnership forms part of BSN’s efforts to expand market penetration in the urban transport sector whilst promoting inclusive, secure, and efficient digital Islamic finance for Commuter Line users.

BSN’s Chief Executive Officer Alex Sofjan Noor stated that the synergy represents a crucial step for the bank, which launched in late 2025, to reinforce its position as a family financial partner.

A key element of the collaboration involves the provision of a co-branded Kartu Multi Trip (KMT) card featuring a distinctive BSN design.

The collaboration also encompasses the development of KMT balance top-up functionality through integration with BSN’s banking systems as well as digital payment services for train ticket bookings via the bank’s platform.

Alex added that the integration will be supported by the Bale Syariah by BSN mobile banking application, which is set to launch in early February 2026. The application reportedly features over 142 financial and non-financial services.

This achievement is considered a foundation for BSN to optimise transaction services for KCI passengers requiring payment convenience and speed.

Beyond retail services, the collaboration also encompasses corporate and employee welfare services for PT KCI. BSN will provide cash management systems, virtual accounts, and payroll systems for the transport company’s employees.

“The synergy encompasses account management, cash optimisation, and employee welfare services through payroll systems and Islamic consumer financing, including mortgages and gold instalment schemes,” Alex said.

According to Purnomo, the co-branded KMT will provide significant benefits to Commuter Line users, many of whom are already BSN customers. With current technological advances, account top-ups are no longer limited to railway stations but can be conducted directly through the mobile application.

He added that the collaboration is expected to extend beyond operational aspects and may be expanded to corporate banking and financing services.

“This collaboration is expected to strengthen the business lines of both companies whilst providing benefits to the wider public that rely on railway transport,” he stated.
