JAKARTA - PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BSI, has assured that operations and services continue to run smoothly following the magnitude 7.3 earthquake that struck Bitung, North Sulawesi, on Thursday (2/4/2026).

BSI Deputy Director Bob Tyasika Ananta stated that the majority of branch offices and banking services in the affected areas are in normal condition.

Only one BSI branch experienced issues, namely the Auxiliary Branch Office (KCP) Bulukumba Sam Ratulangi in South Sulawesi, so its operations have been redirected to another branch.

“Alhamdulillah, since this morning I’ve been monitoring, all the branches are indeed up and running. Only one branch has a non-functional generator, but it has been redirected to another branch,” he said when met at Menara Radius Prawiro, Jakarta, on Thursday (2/4/2026).

Meanwhile, the majority of BSI ATMs in the disaster area are still operating normally and can serve customer financial transactions.

“So perhaps 39 machines are still normal. Only 2 are affected, and the other 2 are just offline,” Bob said.

He also assured that there were no fatalities or injuries from BSI personnel due to the earthquake. Because in disaster situations, the company’s top priority is the safety of employees and customers.

“Alhamdulillah, everyone is safe,” he stated.

Nevertheless, BSI is still checking several assets to ensure they are secure following the earthquake that had the potential to trigger a tsunami.

“But alhamdulillah, this shows that our business continuity management is working,” he added.

The earthquake occurred on Thursday (2/4/2026) around 05:48 WIB, with the epicentre in the sea approximately 129 kilometres southeast of Bitung.

The epicentre was at coordinates 1.25 degrees north latitude and 126.27 degrees east longitude, with a depth of 33 kilometres.

The earthquake shocks were felt in various areas with varying intensities. In Ternate, the shaking reached scale V-VI MMI, causing residents to panic and evacuate their homes, while in Manado it was recorded as IV-V MMI. Vibrations were also felt as far as Gorontalo and surrounding areas with lower scales.

BMKG modelling indicated that this earthquake had the potential for a tsunami, with alert status in Ternate City, Halmahera, Tidore City, Bitung City, South Minahasa, South Minahasa South, and South North Minahasa.

BMKG also issued a caution status in Sangihe Islands, North Minahasa North, and South Bolaang Mongondow.
