British Aerospace to help Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): British Aerospace plc (BAe) boosted its
presence in Malaysia yesterday when it teamed up with a British
university and a Malaysian company to set up a science and
engineering university here.
BAe, Britain's biggest defense conglomerate, sold 28 Hawk
combat aircraft to Malaysia for 2.4 billion ringgit (US$960
million) in 1988 and has also shown an interest in making
components locally.
The proposed university, costing 400 million ringgit ($160
million), will offer courses in car-manufacturing technology,
civil, mechanical and chemical engineering, human resource
development and management.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by BAe chief
executive officer Dick Evans, Talam Corp. Bhd. chairman Chan Ah
Chye and a representative of Loughborough University of
Technology, Bernama news agency said.
