Britain Seriously Considers Sending Two Aircraft Carriers to the Middle East as Iran Tensions Rise, Trump Says He Does Not Need Help
Britain is seriously considering sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and the United States against Iran. However, the US President has said that Washington does not need Britain’s help to win the war. Donald Trump, as reported by Reuters, on Sunday (8 March 2026), has repeatedly criticised British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, saying that Starmer is helping to damage the historically close relationship between the two countries. He said this after London blocked the initial use of British bases by the US to attack Iran. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he would “remember” Britain’s lack of support during the Iran conflict. “Great Britain, which was once our greatest ally, perhaps the greatest of all, is now seriously weighing sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East,” Trump said. “Don’t worry, Prime Minister Starmer, we no longer need them—and we will remember it. We do not need people joining the War after we win!” he added. Trump’s post came after the UK Ministry of Defence stated that it was preparing the aircraft carrier Prince of Wales for deployment. However, according to a British official, there has been no final decision on whether the carrier will be deployed to the Middle East. Starmer defended his decision not to allow US forces to use British bases to support early strikes on Iran, saying he needed to ensure that any military action is legal and well-planned. He then authorised US forces to use British bases for what he termed defensive strikes against Iranian missiles at storage depots or launchers. Earlier this year, Starmer also criticised Trump’s desire to buy Greenland and described Trump’s comment that European forces avoid frontline combat in Afghanistan as, in his words, “frankly, deeply disturbing.”
