BRI's People's Business Credit Scheme Boosts Revenue; Tile Manufacturers in Majalengka Inundated with Orders
Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto’s roof-tiling programme has brought fresh momentum to small business operators in the building materials sector. Across various tile production hubs, market demand has risen significantly as the government’s construction and residential improvement initiatives accelerate.
One entrepreneur directly benefiting from this development is Hj. Nurhasanah, a tile craftsperson from Majalengka’s tile production centre. Together with two sisters, she continues the family tile business established by her mother decades ago.
In recent months, Nurhasanah reports that tile demand has grown substantially. Orders have arrived from various regions including Jakarta, Bandung, and Tegal. This situation has compelled the business to work harder to meet steadily increasing market demand.
The family’s tile factory currently employs approximately 150 workers. However, this number is still considered insufficient to meet high demand. Most of the existing workforce consists of elderly workers, whilst younger generations tend to prefer employment in other industrial sectors.
“Demand is increasing constantly, but finding labour is not easy. Many young people prefer to work at companies,” said Nurhasanah.
In its production process, the family tile business operates 12 press machines and is capable of producing approximately 16,000 tiles weekly. These products are then marketed to various major cities across Java. From this business activity, Nurhasanah achieves monthly revenues in the hundreds of millions of rupiah.
Amid rising market demand, Nurhasanah reports experiencing no significant capital constraints. This is because the business has received financing support through the People’s Business Credit (KUR) scheme from BRI.
According to her, the partnership with BRI has lasted four years and has provided crucial support for the family business’s sustainability.
“Alhamdulillah, our business capital has been assisted by the BRI KUR programme,” she said.
BRI continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), including tile craftspeople who form part of the residential sector ecosystem.
