BRIN pushes for synergy in defence equipment research to strengthen defence technology
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Amarulla Octavian, is pushing for synergy in research on main defence system equipment (alutsista) to increase mastery of technology in order to strengthen the country’s defence system.
In a statement in Jakarta on Thursday, Amarulla stressed that the future of defence is no longer determined by the quantity of alutsista, but by technological superiority and system integration capabilities.
“This development is driven by technological advancements, such as artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and information dominance, which determine strategic superiority,” he said.
Amarulla also discussed the use of military technology in recent global conflicts, such as the Russia-Ukraine war and the Iran conflict with the US-Israel. In these conflicts, missile technology, drones, as well as anti-missile and anti-drone systems, have become key components in determining battle outcomes.
According to him, the key to mastering such technologies lies in developing semiconductor and rare earth metal technologies, which form the foundation of various modern weapon systems. Therefore, strengthening research in this field is crucial for national defence self-reliance.
He affirmed that BRIN has a strategic mandate in accordance with Law No. 11 of 2019 to conduct research to support technology mastery, including military technology.
“In this context, BRIN is ready to act as a bridge between defence needs and national research capacities,” he stated.
Furthermore, Amarulla conveyed that technological superiority is now a force multiplier in defence systems.
“Countries that can master advanced technology will have stronger deterrence capabilities and high adaptability in facing various threat spectrums,” said Amarulla Octavian.
