Jakarta — Head of the Centre for Society and Culture Research at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Aulia Hadi Ph.D, said that Indonesia’s animation industry is currently showing significant progress with talent capacity and the quality of work judged to have reached global competitive standards. ‘Today this clearly underlines that we now have technical capacity, as well as talented human resources, and the creativity of the nation that have reached global competitive standards,’ Aulia said at the launch and press conference for the Indonesia Animation Report 2026 in Jakarta on Tuesday. He stated that the growth of the national animation industry over the past decade has shown an increasing contribution to Indonesia’s creative economy. ‘Moreover, the surge in IP revenues in this sector, particularly in 2025, is also a marker that a new era is emerging in the creative economy based on intellectual property wealth,’ he added. He noted that Indonesia has great potential in developing creative IP because of the diversity of local stories and characters. According to Aulia, the report also maps out various strategic dimensions of the national animation industry, from industry structure and financing to business model transformation and the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI). ‘This report also simultaneously maps all strategic dimensions of the animation industry in Indonesia,’ he said. ‘We hope the Indonesia Animation Report 2026 can serve as a strategic foundation for us, both to implement more progressive policies, for stronger collaboration, and, of course, for the future of Indonesia’s animation industry,’ Aulia concluded.
