BRIN and Minister of Law Hand Over Intellectual Property Certificates to Balinese Artists
Denpasar (ANTARA) - Chair of the Advisory Board of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Megawati Soekarnoputri and Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas handed over intellectual property (HKI) certificates to over a hundred recipients in Bali, dominated by artists.
Bali Governor Wayan Koster, in a statement in Denpasar on Wednesday, noted that today 126 HKI certificates were presented, accompanied by symbolic handovers by the Chair of BRIN’s Advisory Board, the Minister of Law, and the Bali Provincial Government.
The recipients of the certificates were not only from the artist community but also from various fields, ranging from copyrights, trademarks, traditional cultural expressions, to geographical indications.
Among them were the Batuan Gianyar Bali Painting Style, Entil Sanda Tabanan, and artistic works such as the Spirit of Janger Dance and the Cedo Putrimas Motif Art.
In addition, Bali’s cultural wealth received legal strengthening through the registration of Ogoh-Ogoh, Cepuk Tanglad Nusa Penida Weaving, and Jembrana Jegog as protected cultural identities.
“Through HKI protection, we not only preserve cultural heritage but also provide due recognition to its creators,” said Koster.
According to him, with official registration, community works are not only protected from plagiarism threats but also gain added economic value.
Koster stated that local cultural products and creativity have broader opportunities to penetrate the global market, while also improving the welfare of the creators.
During 2025, a total of 10,692 HKI applications were recorded in Bali, consisting of trademarks, industrial designs, and copyrights. Meanwhile, in 2026, within the first three months from January to March, the number of applications reached 5,003.
“This shows increasing public confidence in the work protection system, as well as evidence of the success of massive education and socialisation,” said Koster.
After the HKI certificate handover, the BRIN delegation and the Minister of Law visited an exhibition of UMKM based on intellectual property at the event venue, displaying various local products to demonstrate that HKI protection can serve as a foundation for the growth of Bali’s creative economy.
