BRIN and LPDP Launch RIIM Competition 2026, Inviting Researchers to Utilise Funding
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Education Fund Management Institution (LPDP) have opened the Research and Innovation for an Advanced Indonesia (RIIM) Competition 2026 to broaden access to research funding by utilising the research endowment fund. BRIN’s Deputy for Research and Innovation Facilitation, Agus Haryono, stated in Jakarta on Friday that the RIIM Competition has received high enthusiasm since its first implementation in 2022. To date, more than 2,000 research projects have been funded through the programme. “The RIIM Competition is a multi-year funding scheme that can be carried out for up to three years. We are awaiting as many proposals as possible from researchers, as this is an excellent opportunity for developing research ideas,” he said. In addition to the RIIM Competition, BRIN is also opening schemes for facilitating the testing and development of innovative products to support the downstreaming of research outcomes. He reminded participants to be cautious of parties claiming to represent the RIIM Competition programme, as BRIN does not collaborate with any specific parties in proposal preparation or procurement related to the programme. Meanwhile, LPDP’s Director of Research Facilitation, Ayom Widipaminto, stated that they continue to strengthen research funding support through the research endowment fund. Currently, the endowment managed by LPDP reaches more than Rp180.1 trillion, with the research endowment amounting to Rp13.99 trillion. According to Ayom, the collaboration between BRIN and LPDP has supported more than 10,000 researches. For the RIIM programme specifically, the average annual funding reaches Rp150 billion with a total accumulation of around Rp792 billion. “The utilisation of the research endowment fund can still be continuously increased. Therefore, LPDP together with BRIN is striving to strengthen the research and innovation ecosystem so that more researchers can access funding optimally,” said Ayom Widipaminto. The RIIM Competition is a research and innovation funding scheme targeted at government and non-government research institutions to produce novelties, inventions, and innovations with impact. The RIIM Competition not only targets international scientific publications and intellectual property but also supports evidence-based policies and enhancements to research outcomes with high technology readiness levels (TKT) so that they are ready to be utilised by industry or society. The mandatory outputs from RIIM Competition funding include publications in reputable journals at least Q3 Scopus or intellectual property outputs, such as patents and plant variety protection.
