Brimob Officers Foil Planned Brawl in East Jakarta, Five Youths Arrested with Four Bladed Weapons
Jakarta, VIVA – Efforts to prevent street brawls in the capital have once again yielded results. The Anti-Brawl Task Force from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s Mobile Brigade (Brimob) together with the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police thwarted a potential clash in the Ciracas area of East Jakarta in the early hours of Monday, 16 February 2026.
During a routine patrol conducted as part of Operation Anti-Brawl 2026, officers encountered a group of youths gathered together. Upon inspection, police discovered four bladed weapons suspected of being intended for use in violent acts.
Five youths were immediately taken into custody at the police station for further questioning. Police are investigating the alleged brawl plan and the origin of the bladed weapons.
The commitment of security forces to curbing brawls was affirmed directly by the Commander of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s Mobile Brigade, Senior Commissioner Henik Maryanto. He stated that the patrols were part of a programme by the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief, Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri, entitled Jaga Jakarta (Guard Jakarta).
“We carry out patrols routinely and in a measured manner as a preventive measure so that potential public order disturbances can be averted early,” he said.
The operation also serves as a firm signal that security forces will not tolerate street violence that frequently unsettles residents, particularly during high-risk hours.
Beyond enforcement action, the National Police also called on the public to play an active role in maintaining neighbourhood security. Residents were urged to report immediately any potential public order disturbances through the 110 Call Centre, which operates around the clock.
Through preventive measures and collaboration with the community, police expressed hope that the rate of street brawls in the East Jakarta area can be reduced and the security situation kept stable.
