The Mobile Brigade (Brimob) unit of Metro Jaya Police disbanded illegal street racing in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, in the early hours. Three young men were detained.

The three youth were apprehended when the Patra Battalion B Pioneer team of Brimob Metro Jaya Police conducted patrols on Jalan RS Soekanto in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, in the early morning hours. Officers discovered a group of youths engaged in illegal street racing on the road.

“Officers then pursued and apprehended three suspected perpetrators along with three motorcycles used in the activity,” said Dansat Brimob Metro Jaya Police Kombes Henik Maryanto on Thursday (12 March 2026).

Kombes Henik stated that patrols during high-risk hours are being intensified because illegal street racing incidents on various road segments frequently occur repeatedly and pose potential danger to other road users.

“The presence of personnel in the field aims to prevent potential accidents and maintain the safety of the public using those routes,” he said.

He added that the swift action taken by personnel in the field forms part of a preventive policing effort to halt activities that endanger safety. According to him, routine patrols also serve as an anticipatory measure to prevent locations frequently used as illegal street racing arenas from being reused by certain groups.

After being apprehended, the three suspected perpetrators and the motorcycles as evidence were handed over to the Traffic Unit of East Jakarta Metro Police for further processing in accordance with applicable regulations.

Brimob Metro Jaya Police urged the public, particularly young people, not to engage in illegal street racing activities that can endanger themselves and others. The role of parents and the surrounding community is also expected to help monitor children’s activities during the night and early morning hours to maintain collective safety.

Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations at Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Budi Hermanto, stated that illegal street racing is among the potential public order disturbances that have caught police attention.

“In particular, to anticipate the phenomenon of illegal street racing that often occurs before sahur time and after Subuh prayer, the Metro Jaya Police Chief has instructed reinforced security measures at vulnerable points,” said Kombes Budi Hermanto.

Budi Hermanto said the Brimob unit of Metro Jaya Police, together with the police precincts, is currently intensifying the frequency of community engagement patrols and firm enforcement whilst maintaining a humanitarian approach.

“The presence of Brimob personnel in the field, especially at vulnerable points, particularly in East Jakarta and the borders with Bekasi and Tangerang, is aimed at providing a deterrent effect to illegal street racing perpetrators,” he said.

He urged parents to monitor their children, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. The public is also urged to report to the police at 110 if they encounter any public order disturbances.
