JAKARTA — Railings or protective barriers on a bridge along Jembatan Goyang Road in Ancol, North Jakarta are suspected to have been stolen by metal scrappers.

Based on observations by Kompas.com at the location on Tuesday, 10 March 2026, the bridge connects Jalan R.E. Martadinata with Jalan Lodan Raya.

Two orange-coloured road barriers are visible at the bridge access from Jalan R.E. Martadinata. On the Jalan Lodan Raya side, the access is blocked with Toll Harbour Road II project barriers, leaving only a 10-metre wide passage.

The bridge railings, approximately 50 metres in length, now retain less than half of their original condition. The missing railing sections have left only corroded support posts visible.

Denny, aged 50, a local resident, reported that the bridge railings began disappearing about a year ago when the bridge access was closed due to the ongoing project. “Roughly about a year now. More than half has already gone,” he told Kompas.com at the location.

According to him, Jembatan Goyang Road is particularly vulnerable to metal scrappers, and such incidents occur repeatedly. “Some people were caught once before, three of them I think. They were actually taking metal from the roadside here on Jalan R.E. Martadinata,” he said.

“When checked, the person ran away. It usually happens at night I think, they just cut it with a saw,” he added.

According to him, metal scrapping incidents on the bridge have become rare after he coordinated with local security. “I once spoke to the security officer in the residential area across the railway. I told them ‘if this happens again, it’s a police matter. There’s CCTV.’ Since then, it hasn’t happened,” he said.
