BRI Urges Public to Align Mortgage Instalments with Income
Jakarta — The high demand for housing has many people shopping for homes at property fairs and financing fairs. Yet with property prices continuing to rise, the public is reminded not to force mortgage repayments beyond their financial capacity.
That message was delivered by Cipto Haryabi, Senior Manager of Retail Payment & Card at BRI, at the BRI Consumer Expo 2026 at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC) Senayan on Friday, 22 May 2026.
‘The most important thing after taking out a mortgage is that your quality of life should not fall,’ Cipto said.
He noted that prospective homebuyers should calculate monthly income, routine expenses, and an emergency fund before taking out a home loan (KPR). He said many people are still trapped by desire rather than need when choosing a home. Therefore, the public is asked to realistically determine the instalment size so the family’s financial condition remains healthy.
‘If we feel the desire is too large, we will direct them to a safer option,’ he added.
Beyond financial ability, people are urged to check the track record of developers before purchasing a home, especially projects still under construction.
‘What needs attention is the track record of the developer,’ Cipto said.
Aris Hartanto, Director of Consumer Banking at BRI, said the BRI Consumer Expo is organised to help the public access housing finance, vehicle loans, and travel-related financing in one location.
‘The event is designed so that people can access financing solutions for housing, vehicles, and travel needs more easily and practically,’ Aris said.
At the expo, BRI is offering a mortgage promotion with interest rates starting at 1.75% fixed for one year and vehicle loans (KKB) starting at 1.59% for a one-year tenor.
BRI Consumer Expo 2026 runs from Friday, 22 May 2026, to Sunday, 24 May 2026 at Hall A and B of JICC Senayan, Jakarta. The fair features 58 property developers, 43 vehicle brands, a travel fair, and merchants selling household and culinary goods.
