In the midst of growing global awareness of the importance of transitioning to a green and inclusive economy, sustainable financing is key to driving environmentally friendly growth while strengthening social resilience.

In line with its commitment to supporting sustainable development, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BRI, continues to strengthen its role through the provision of sustainability-oriented credit, which includes financing for SMEs and support for environmentally friendly sectors across various regions.

During the press conference on BRI’s First Quarter 2026 Financial Performance in Jakarta (30/04), BRI’s Deputy Director Viviana Dyah Ayu R.K. stated that ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles are an identity that has been integrated into the company’s business model. Sustainability aspects have become a main pillar in creating long-term value, where empowering the people’s economy and environmental preservation have become an integral part of BRI’s growth strategy.

As of the end of March 2026, BRI has disbursed Social Loan financing for Socially Aware Business Activities (KUBS) worth Rp718.8 trillion, equivalent to 53% of BRI’s total loans. This portfolio is focused on SME financing to accelerate financial inclusion and job creation.

Meanwhile, the portion of Environmentally Aware Business Activities (KUBL) or Green Loans is recorded at Rp96.6 trillion, or equivalent to 7.1% of total loans, which is channelled to the renewable energy sector, environmentally friendly transportation, green buildings, and various other environmentally friendly sectors to support the achievement of a low-carbon economy.

Asset optimisation is balanced with strengthening the liability structure through the development of Sustainable Wholesale Funding, which reached Rp39.3 trillion by the end of the First Quarter 2026, or equivalent to 78.2% of BRI’s total Wholesale Funding.

“Overall, this approach affirms that sustainability at BRI is no longer merely about complying with regulations, but has been integrated as part of the growth strategy,” said Viviana.
