Amid growing global attention to the importance of transitioning to a green and inclusive economy, sustainable financing has become an important instrument for driving environmentally friendly economic growth whilst strengthening social resilience.

In line with the Indonesian government’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BRI, continues to strengthen its role through the distribution of sustainability-based financing.

This financing includes support for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) as well as environmentally friendly projects across various regions.

Sustainable Loans Portfolio Reaches Rp811.9 Trillion

BRI’s sustainability commitment is reflected in its business portfolio supporting socially and environmentally impactful activities. As of December 2025, BRI’s sustainable loans portfolio reached Rp811.9 trillion, or equivalent to 60.5 per cent of the company’s total loan portfolio.

This amount comprises social loans of Rp718.7 trillion, which have been distributed for micro-financing, MSME financing, and subsidised housing financing.

This financing aims to expand access to financial services, increase equitable economic opportunities, and support community welfare.

Meanwhile, BRI’s green loans portfolio stood at Rp93.2 trillion, which has been allocated for various environmentally conscious projects.

Several sectors supported include renewable energy, energy efficiency, pollution control, sustainable land management, environmentally friendly transportation, eco-efficient products, green building development, and various projects supporting the transition to a green economy.

Strengthening Sustainable Funding

In terms of funding, BRI continues to develop sustainable wholesale funding schemes. By the end of December 2025, the value of sustainable funding had reached Rp45.6 trillion.

This step is in line with the government’s development agenda through the Asta Cita concept, which emphasises the importance of maintaining a balance between economic development and environmental and cultural preservation.

Aquarius Rudianto, BRI’s Director of Network & Retail Funding, explained that the principle of sustainability has become part of the company’s long-term strategy in building a resilient business model.

According to him, this approach provides the foundation for BRI to ensure business growth proceeds in tandem with efforts to expand financial inclusion and support the transition to a low-carbon economy.
