Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The shift in Indonesian consumer behaviour towards digitalisation is driving insurance industry players to adapt their products to the digital segment. One example is through insurtech products. BRI Life’s Director of Operations, Andrew Bain, said that Indonesian consumers increasingly prioritise the ease and speed of digital services, including meeting protection needs for a range of specific activities such as sports, travel, religious activities, and certain events. In response to this, the company has launched Digital Insurance, or Mobile Digital Insurance (MODI), which offers flexible protection solutions relevant to the activities of modern society and accessible end-to-end via official platforms. ‘All processes, from selecting a package, buying a policy, to monitoring the policy, are conducted online, providing ease, speed, and convenience for people to obtain protection anytime and anywhere,’ Andrew said in a written statement, quoted on Thursday, 5 March 2025. The insurtech protection packages offer insurance terms ranging from daily to yearly, with a sum insured of up to Rp100 million. In addition, customers are provided with ease of registration and 24-hour online service access every day. With digitalisation, BRI Life hopes this can broaden distribution reach. The initiative is also in line with the OJK Roadmap 2023–2027 in terms of improving financial inclusion. It is noted that the OJK targets insurance assets growth of 5%–7%. Meanwhile, the OJK records that the realisation of commercial insurance premiums in Indonesia stood at Rp331 trillion by the end of 2025, or down 1.46% compared with the previous year. In addition, the realisation of national insurance claims was Rp216 trillion in 2025, or down about 4.85% from the previous year.
