Breaking: Trump Plans New Air Strikes on Iran
US President Donald Trump is considering resuming air strikes because talks with Iran have stalled. This is the latest update on the US-Iran war, as reported by the American website Axios on Monday.
The report quotes three US officials familiar with the matter. On Sunday, Trump rejected Iran’s latest peace proposal terms, calling them “completely unacceptable” and stating that “the ceasefire reached about a month ago is in very critical condition”.
According to Axios, Trump will meet with his national security team to discuss next steps, including the possibility of resuming Project Freedom. This operation aims to guide ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
Additionally, he is considering restarting air strikes, including targeting 25% of the remaining sites identified by the Pentagon but not yet attacked.
This report comes as the Washington Post also published a report citing a CIA assessment. It states that Iran retains about 75% of its pre-war mobile launchers and 70% of its missiles, and could withstand a US naval blockade for at least three to four months.
It should be noted that Trump suspended Project Freedom within 24 hours of announcing it last week. This followed a request from Pakistan, which has acted as a mediator in the conflict.
NBC later reported that Trump delayed the initiative after rejection from Saudi Arabia. The kingdom of King Salman allows the US to use its bases and airspace to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said on Sunday that the US “has no alternative” but to accept Tehran’s terms. He stated, “the longer they delay, the more American taxpayers will bear the cost”.
In fact, citing Press TV, one clause that has not yet found common ground between the US and Iran is the closure of Iran’s nuclear sites. Iran’s state media describes Trump’s demand to close the country’s nuclear sites as “impossible and rejected by Iran for decades”.
Other terms proposed by Iran in the new peace proposal include the lifting of sanctions and war reparations. Iran also requests a new framework governing the Strait of Hormuz that recognises “Iran’s sovereign control over this vital waterway”.
