BREAKING NEWS: Iran Announces Full Reopening of the Strait of Hormuz
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEHERAN – The Islamic Republic of Iran on Friday (17/4/2026) announced the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, following the fulfilment of the conditions for a complete cessation of attacks against Lebanon. The decision to open the Strait of Hormuz was announced by Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi via a post on his X account.
“In line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, passage for all commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz is announced to be fully open for the remaining duration of the ceasefire, on routes coordinated as already announced by the ports and maritime organisations of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” said Araghchi.
Quoted by Al Jazeera, a senior Iranian military official told the national television that ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz require permission from the IRGC. Separately, an Iranian official told Reuters that all commercial ships, including US ships, are permitted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, while naval ships will not be allowed to transit.
