Braille Qur'an Production at Wyata Guna Foundation Declines Amid Rising Costs

Workers at the Wyata Guna Foundation’s printing facility in Bandung, West Java, are experiencing significant challenges in Braille Qur’an production. During this year’s Ramadan season, the printing operation has recorded a production decline of approximately 50 per cent compared to the previous year, producing only 100 sets of Braille Qur’ans against last year’s output of 200 sets.

The sharp reduction in output has been attributed to two primary factors: substantially elevated printing costs and a corresponding decrease in orders. Workers at the facility, who are responsible for binding, quality checking, and copying the Qur’an text onto the Braille printing plates, have noted the operational constraints imposed by these economic pressures.

The Wyata Guna Foundation operates as a social institution dedicated to serving visually impaired populations by producing accessible religious texts in Braille format. The production decline highlights the financial vulnerabilities faced by organisations providing specialised services to disabled communities, particularly during periods of increased demand such as the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
