Tanjungpinang - Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded that the economy of Riau Islands Province (Kepri) grew by 7.04% in the first quarter of 2026, the highest across Sumatra Island compared to the 5.16% growth in the first quarter of 2025 (year-on-year).
“The Kepri economy in the first quarter of 2026, measured by gross regional domestic product (PDRB) at current market prices (ADHB), reached Rp99.38 trillion, and at constant prices (ADHK) reached Rp57.65 trillion,” said the Head of BPS Kepri, Toto Haryanto Silitonga, in Tanjungpinang on Tuesday.
He stated that the economic structure of Kepri in the first quarter of 2026 was still dominated by the processing industry (42.42%), followed by construction (19.59%), and wholesale and retail trade, car and motorcycle repair (9.66%).
From the business field perspective, he said, growth in this quarter was also driven by the processing industry category, which contributed 2.50% to the growth. This aligns with the rapid development of industrial zones, particularly in Batam City.
However, according to the BPS Head, the Kepri economy in the first quarter of 2026 still experienced a contraction of 3.54% compared to the fourth quarter of 2025 (quarter-on-quarter).

Meanwhile, from the expenditure side, the government consumption expenditure component (PK-P) provided the largest negative contribution of 2.42%, followed by the gross fixed capital formation component with a negative contribution of 1.57%.
“In the regional context, Kepri’s PDRB in the first quarter of 2026 contributed 7.30% to the PDRB of Sumatra Island,” stated the Head of BPS Kepri.
