Jakarta — Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation of 0.68% in February 2026. This inflation was driven by a surge in food prices during the Ramadan season. On a calendar year basis, inflation stood at 0.53%.

“The month-to-month inflation rate in February 2026 was 0.68%, whilst the year-to-date inflation rate in February 2026 was 0.53%,” stated Ateng Hartono, Deputy Head of Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, during a press conference on Monday, 2 March 2026.

According to BPS data, 33 provinces experienced inflation whilst 5 recorded deflation. The highest inflation occurred in South Sulawesi at 1.04%, whilst the lowest deflation was recorded in West Papua at 0.65%.

Hartono noted that the main contributors to monthly inflation included food, beverages and tobacco, which recorded inflation of 1.54%, with this food inflation accounting for 0.45 percentage points.

“The commodities predominantly driving inflation in the food, beverages and tobacco group were poultry meat at 0.09%, bird’s eye chilli at 0.08%, fresh fish at 0.05%, red chilli at 0.04%, and also tomatoes, rice and chicken eggs, each at 0.02%,” Hartono said.

This BPS report is consistent with market consensus gathered by CNBC Indonesia from 13 institutions, which had forecast Consumer Price Index inflation of 0.3% on a month-to-month basis in February 2026. On an annualised year-on-year basis, inflation was expected to reach 4.34%, with core inflation projected to strengthen to 2.49%. For comparison, January 2026 recorded deflation of 0.15% on a month-to-month basis, but CPI rose to 3.55% year-on-year, with core inflation at 2.45%.
