He added that other commodities that also contributed to inflation included cooking oil at 0.05%, tomatoes at 0.03%, and rice as well as rice with side dishes each at 0.02%.

“Some commodities also contributed to deflation, including broiler chicken meat with a deflation contribution of 0.11%, gold jewellery with 0.09%, cayenne pepper and broiler eggs each at 0.06% and 0.04%,” Ateng stated.

Furthermore, the core component experienced inflation of 0.23% with a contribution of 0.15%. Commodities that made the largest contribution to this component included cooking oil, rice with side dishes, mobile phones, fried chicken, laptops or notebooks, and granulated sugar.

In addition, government-regulated price components also experienced inflation of 0.69% with a contribution of 0.13%. Inflation in this component was mainly triggered by increases in air transport fares, petrol prices, household fuels, and machine-rolled clove cigarettes (SKM).

Conversely, the volatile component recorded deflation of 0.88% with a deflation contribution of 0.15%. This deflation was driven by price decreases in commodities such as broiler chicken meat, cayenne pepper, broiler eggs, and red chillies.

On an annual basis (yoy), April 2026 inflation was recorded at 2.42%, higher than the annual inflation in April 2025 of 1.95%. Based on expenditure groups, annual inflation was mainly driven by the food, beverages, and tobacco group, which contributed 0.90% to inflation with an inflation rate of 3.06%. This was followed by the personal care and other services group, which contributed 0.77% to inflation with a rate of 11.43%. Inflation in this group was mainly driven by gold jewellery commodities.

All components experienced annual inflation. The highest inflation occurred in the volatile component, at 3.37% with a contribution of 0.56%. Dominant commodities contributing to inflation included broiler chicken meat, rice, and broiler eggs.

Next, the core component experienced inflation of 2.44% with a contribution of 1.56%, driven by increases in gold jewellery prices, cooking oil, rice with side dishes, and academy/university tuition fees. Meanwhile, the government-regulated component experienced lower inflation of 1.53% with a contribution of 0.30%, mainly due to increases in air transport fares, machine-rolled clove cigarettes (SKM), and hand-rolled clove cigarettes (SKT).
