Jakarta — Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has recorded foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia in January 2026 at 1.01 million visits, representing a 1.11 per cent increase compared to the same period in the previous year (year-on-year).

“Foreign tourist arrivals through main entry points declined 17.06 per cent on a monthly basis, but increased 1.1 per cent year-on-year,” said Ateng Hartono, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, in Jakarta on Monday.

He stated that foreign tourist arrivals were recorded through several main entry points, including international airports, international seaports, and border crossing posts (PLB).

Beyond foreign tourist arrival indicators, BPS also tracked domestic tourism developments. In January 2026, domestic tourist travel reached 102.04 million journeys, declining 0.93 per cent compared to January 2025.

BPS recorded railway passenger numbers in January 2026 at 48.10 million people, an increase of 10.94 per cent compared to January 2025.

Growth was also recorded in international air transport passengers, reaching 1.77 million people or rising 2.04 per cent year-on-year.

Meanwhile, domestic air transport passenger departures stood at 4.92 million people, a decline of 3.33 per cent compared to January of the previous year.

A decrease was also recorded in river, lake, and ferry transport (ASDP) passengers at 4.29 million people, declining 3.67 per cent compared to the same period the previous year.

BPS also recorded goods transported using domestic maritime transport in January 2026 at 37.49 million tonnes, declining 1.05 per cent compared to January 2025.

In addition, goods transported by railway stood at 5.33 million tonnes, declining 7.90 per cent year-on-year.
