Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) is preparing a major deployment of human resources to support the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census (SE2026), including mobilising central office staff and students from the Statistical Science College (STIS).

BPS Secretary-General Zulkipli stated that SE2026 represents the most challenging census as it directly targets business operators as respondents with national coverage.

He noted that the most complex data collection challenges occur in urban areas with dense and diverse business characteristics, particularly in Jakarta. “Jakarta alone, with its very tall buildings and numerous business centres, will be a significant undertaking if only handled by a small number of census officers,” Zulkipli said during SE2026 socialisation event in Jakarta on Wednesday.

To address these challenges, BPS will deploy nearly all its internal components in field data collection activities. Zulkipli exemplified BPS central office staff, stating they will be mobilised in large numbers to support census implementation in Central Jakarta.

“Central office staff—perhaps more than 50 per cent, even up to 75 per cent—will be deployed to assist data collection in Central Jakarta,” he explained.

Beyond BPS staff, the national statistical agency will also involve STIS students as part of its strategy to strengthen data collection resources. He noted that STIS students will particularly assist in data collection in urban areas with high business activity levels.

“All Statistical Science College students will be deployed to help, especially in complex areas such as Jakarta,” he stated.

BPS will also coordinate cross-regional support, whereby regions with greater officer capacity will assist other areas requiring data collection reinforcement. This approach ensures all economic activities are comprehensively and consistently documented according to census methodology.

The 2026 Economic Census is scheduled to occur in two data collection phases: 1–30 May 2026 through Computer Assisted Web Interviewing (CAWI) and 16 May–31 July 2026 through Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI).

Data collection will cover all economic activities across 38 provinces and 514 regencies/cities, excluding agriculture, government administration, and household activities for self-consumption.

Through strengthened human resources and cross-regional coordination, BPS aims to ensure SE2026 data quality accurately reflects the national economic structure as a foundation for formulating development policies.
