Surabaya (ANTARA) - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of East Java has stated that East Java’s import value in January 2026 increased 12.01 percent compared to the same period in 2025, rising from USD 2.27 billion to USD 2.55 billion, driven by strong non-hydrocarbon sector imports.

“This increase was spurred by the strengthening performance of non-hydrocarbon sector imports, which grew 18.13 percent from USD 1.82 billion to USD 2.15 billion,” said Senior Statistician Ike Rahayu Sri of BPS East Java in Surabaya on Monday.

On the other hand, hydrocarbon imports fell 12.41 percent compared to January 2025, dropping from USD 455.56 million to USD 399.01 million, owing to declining imports of oil derivative and gas commodities, which fell 22.32 percent and 8.85 percent respectively.

The value of hydrocarbon imports from oil derivatives in January 2026 reached USD 246.78 million and gas imports amounted to USD 102.62 million, whilst crude oil imports increased 96.12 percent.

Electrical equipment (HS 85) rose by USD 33.55 million or 46.82 percent, and oil-bearing seeds and fruits (HS 12) increased by USD 22.17 million or 40.07 percent.

Machinery and electrical equipment commodities were imported predominantly from China, reaching USD 63.71 million, whilst oil-bearing seeds and fruits (HS 12) were largely imported from the United States, reaching USD 44.82 million.
