BPS Deploys 4,082 Field Officers for Economic Census in Yogyakarta
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of the Republic of Indonesia has deployed a total of over 251,000 field officers nationwide, with 4,082 of them assigned to data collection for the Economic Census (SE) in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), commencing from 15 June until 31 August 2026. “DIY is very special because its human development index achievement is the second highest in Indonesia,” said Deputy Head of BPS RI Sonny Harry Budiutomo Harmadi during the Launch of the 2026 Economic Census Implementation in Yogyakarta on Thursday. According to him, Yogyakarta is renowned as an Education City, where education plays an extraordinary role in national development, both in the context of human development and economic development. He added that education is included as an economic activity; therefore, through the 2026 Economic Census, the extent of education’s contribution to DIY’s economy can be determined. “The system will be such that census officers will not only visit registered business actors but also go house-to-house to record all existing economic activities. So it is very possible that the census officers will encounter new businesses,” he said. Vice Governor of DIY KGPAA Paku Alam X stated that the 2026 Economic Census provides trustworthy basic data regarding economic structures, business characteristics, as well as the development of the digital economy and environmental economy. “This basic data will become the foundation for formulating national and regional economic development policies. And as a region that relies on services, education, tourism, the creative economy, culture, and MSMEs, we need a complete portrait of the dynamics of the business world,” he said. He emphasised that every piece of data submitted will become a footing for development policies that determine the future of the region’s economy and the welfare of its people. “Welcome BPS officers by providing correct, complete, and truthful information. This data will later become the basis for formulating MSME development policies, strengthening investment, enhancing regional competitiveness, and expanding employment opportunities,” he said.
