BPS Data: Layoffs Affect 196,700 People in 2025, 113,000 Return to Work
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The number of people affected by layoffs or redundancies throughout last year reached 196,700, based on data recorded in the February 2026 National Labour Force Survey (Sakernas).
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) defines the data recorded in the February 2026 Sakernas as individuals who stopped working due to layoffs one year prior, or within the survey period from February 2025 to February 2026.
“Of course, in the Sakernas, we not only record those who were laid off but also those who found employment again,” said BPS Chief Amalia Adhininggar Widysanti during a press conference at the BPS Head Office in Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5/2026).
Referring to the details of the February 2026 Sakernas data, out of the total 196,700 people laid off throughout last year, 113,000 have returned to work. Then, 69,100 people are still unemployed, and 14,600 people fall into the category of non-labour force or BAK.
Alongside this data, BPS also recorded a decline in Indonesia’s unemployment figures for the February 2026 period. The number stands at 7.24 million people, or a decrease of 35,000 from the February 2025 record.
Meanwhile, the open unemployment rate also fell to 4.68% from the same month last year at 4.76%.
“The open unemployment rate in February 2026 is 4.68%, or approximately 5 out of 100 members of the labour force are unemployed,” she explained.
