Palu (ANTARA) - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the economy of Central Sulawesi Province grew by 8.32 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026. “The value of Central Sulawesi’s economy based on GRDP (Gross Regional Domestic Product) in the first quarter of 2026 at current market prices reached Rp110.267,82 billion and at constant 2010 prices amounted to Rp57.438,68 billion,” said the Head of BPS Central Sulawesi, Daryanto, during the official release event in Palu on Tuesday. He stated that compared to the first quarter of 2025, Central Sulawesi’s economy grew positively by 8.32 percent in the first quarter of 2026. Although this figure slowed compared to the previous period, it still exceeded the national economic growth recorded at 5.61 percent. He mentioned that the three business fields with the largest contributions to Central Sulawesi’s economy were the processing industry at 43.43 percent, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries at 16.19 percent, and mining and quarrying at 14.17 percent. From the production side, he continued, the processing industry also recorded the highest growth of 15.09 percent, in line with the increased production of basic metal commodities, followed by mining and quarrying at 3.42 percent and agriculture, forestry, and fisheries at 1.92 percent. “In the first quarter of 2026 on an annual basis, the processing industry was the highest source of growth, namely 5.94 percent,” he said. Meanwhile, from the expenditure side, he said, the government consumption expenditure component recorded the highest growth of 21.03 percent, followed by exports of goods and services at 11.95 percent. Then, consumption by non-profit institutions serving households (NPISHs) at 8.01 percent, household consumption at 5.44 percent, and gross fixed capital formation (GFCF) at 1.96 percent. Nevertheless, he also mentioned that on a quarter-to-quarter basis, Central Sulawesi’s economy in the first quarter of 2026 experienced a contraction of 6.98 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2025. He added that the deepest contraction occurred in the business field of government administration, defence, and mandatory social security at 18.85 percent, followed by the processing industry at 11.28 percent and mining and quarrying at 7.46 percent.
