Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - The Aceh Oil and Gas Management Agency (BPMA) has stated that three Contractors under Cooperation Contracts (KKKS) in Aceh will soon commence drilling four new wells in the north-eastern region to increase each company’s oil and gas production.

“We have indeed asked the KKKS to seek out new wells, and this will begin this year (2026),” said BPMA Head Nasri Djalal in Banda Aceh on Wednesday.

The KKKS set to drill the new wells are PT Medco E&P Malaka with one development well in the Alur Siwah 15 area of East Aceh, Nasri added.

Then there is Pema Global Energi (PGE) with two exploration wells in North Aceh, as well as Triangle Pase Inc (TPI) Pase Block with one exploration well in the East Aceh area.

According to him, the drilling will vary. Medco E&P Malaka will drill a condensate well, PGE will drill condensate and gas wells, while TPI will also drill a condensate well.

For the planning of these new wells, PGE and TPI are scheduled for the end of 2026. Meanwhile, Medco E&P Malaka is set for early 2027, but preparations have already begun in 2026.

“Medco for condensate, PGE for condensate and gas, and TPI for condensate. Drilling at the end of this year for PGE and TPI. For Medco, early 2027, but the preparation process has already started,” he said.

Nasri emphasised that BPMA continues to promote the development of new wells, a step that is necessary given the limited fields and reserves of oil and gas in Aceh.

He stressed that drilling new wells must be carried out because reserves in old wells are starting to deplete. Therefore, it is appropriate for companies like Medco to undertake development.

“Then, at PGE, the reserves in old wells are also nearly exhausted. For TPI, it is only gas, so now we are asking them to drill condensate as well,” he said.

He affirmed that all these efforts have been included in the work programme and budget (WP&B) or the 2026 work and budget plan of BPMA. This includes pushing the KKKS to increase their production, either through technology or by opening new wells.

“The main point is that BPMA continues to push for increased production, how to achieve an increase, besides using technology, or by drilling new reserves, and this has been included in the 2026 WP&B,” said Nasri Djalal.
